چکیده

Since about 30 % of the land surface are covered with arid and desert conditions of soil, bright grounds and their aerosol emissions are of essential importance for the investigation of general aerosol impact in climate. Therefore retrievals of aerosol properties from spaceborne platforms need to include retrieval approaches, working over this conditions. An approach to retrieve aerosol properties over brighter surfaces such as arid and semiarid areas, based on the Bremen AErosol Retrieval (BAER) has been developed and investigated within the DREAMS Project (Dust aerosol RetrievAls from spaceborne instruMentS) of SAMUM (SAharan Mineral dUst experiMent) group of researchers [1]. Combined satellite and ground based closures enable the determination of required aerosol characteristics for a remote sensing of aerosol optical thickness over bright surfaces.

How different source regions across the Middle East change aerosol and dust particle characteristics

A major question is whether different source regions across the Middle East account for changes in aerosol and dust particle characteristics, which impact Western Iran. Therefore, over a period of sampling from April 2017 to April 2018, dust particles were collected in Western Iran from different cities including Urmia, Sanandaj, Sare-Pole-Zahab, Dehloran and Abadan. The research aim is to comp...

Spatio-temporal variability of aerosol characteristics in Iran using remotely sensed datasets

The present study is the first attempt to examine temporal and spatial characteristics of aerosol properties and classify their modes over Iran. The data used in this study include the records of Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) and Angstrom Exponent (AE) from MODerate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) and Aerosol Index (AI) from the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI), obtained from 2005 t...

Improved algorithm for MODIS satellite retrievals of aerosol optical depths over western North America

[1] Quantitative evaluation of chemical transport models (CTMs) with aerosol optical depth (AOD) products retrieved from satellite backscattered reflectances can be compromised by inconsistent assumptions of aerosol optical properties and errors in surface reflectance estimates. We present an improved AOD retrieval algorithm for the MODIS satellite instrument using locally derived surface refle...

Aerosol Optical Depth Spatial and Temporal Variability Using Satellite Data Over Indian Major Cities

Introduction: The study’s main aim is to investigate the long-term variation of Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD). It also aims to show the relationship between meteorological parameters. This study evaluates long-term (2010 to 2021) special and temporal changes over major Indian regions using satellite-based data from NASA’s Terra Satellite. Materials and Methods: This study was carried out during ...

A long-term record of aerosol optical depth from TOMS observations and comparison to AERONET measurements

Observations of backscattered near-ultraviolet radiation from the Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer (TOMS) on board the Nimbus-7 (1979–92) and the Earth Probe (mid-1996 to present) satellites have been used to derive a long-term record of aerosol optical depth over oceans and continents. The retrieval technique applied to the TOMS data makes use of two unique advantages of near-UV remote sensing...
